COMMON
QUESTIONS
1. What’s the difference between Coaching and Counseling?
In counseling, the counselor provides possible answers to the clients questions. The
counselor typically determines the agenda and schedule.
In coaching, the client owns the relationship from the start: the focus, the goals,
the schedule, the vision, etc. The coach:
- Does not bring a predetermined agenda to the
relationship.
- Does not give the client the answers to their problems.
- Assists the client in discovering and learning the answers to the questions that will lead the
client to greatness.
- Helps keep the client accountable to meeting their
goals for success.
2. What’s the difference between Coaching and Consulting?
Consulting is a problem-solving service. The consultant is paid to provide the client with what
they believe are the answers to client’s problems.
Coaching provides the client the opportunity to enter an
environment where their vision can be developed and achieved. Inspiration and motivation are key elements. In coaching, the
client owns the relationship from the start: the focus, the goals, the agenda, the schedule, the
vision, etc.
Once again, the coach:
- Does not bring a predetermined agenda to the
relationship.
- Does not give the client the answers to their problems.
- Assists the client in discovering and learning the answers to the questions that will lead the
client to greatness.
- Helps keep the client accountable to meeting their
goals for success.
3. Which areas of my life will benefit from Coaching?
You will discover what areas you want to work as we build our coaching relationship. The
exciting results of coaching are often experienced as clients deal with issues that make small
changes that add up to great success.
4. What guarantee or assurance is there that this will accomplish my goals? How do we
gauge our success?
We will determine from the outset of our coaching relationship what you desire to achieve
through being coached. You will determine the success of our relationship, by setting
measurable and achievable goals and objectives, and deciding on the steps you want to take to
meet those goals and objectives.
5. Is Coaching focused purely on business issues? It seems that personal life- issues are
at the core of what goes on in my business?
If you choose executive coaching, then we will focus on you as an executive and your business.
If you decide you would prefer life coaching, then that will determine our focus for when we
meet.
6. How are sessions conducted? I’ve heard most are over the phone.
Sessions are typically over the phone, but if you would prefer, e-mail is
included in your coaching package. The possibility of in-person
coaching is also available.
7. Is my time with you strictly scheduled as an appointment or are you accessible at times
that fit for a client with a somewhat unpredictable schedule?
You have the option of either setting up regular scheduled sessions, or choosing
a flexible schedule.
